ST.MARTIINS MY GIRL

Self-proclaimed golden couple Katie Lynch and Mark Johnston (aka st.martiins) have released a woozy alt-pop stunner ‘My Girl’ and we really, really want you to listen to it… possibly, on repeat. The parallelly calm fluidity and urgency of Lynch’s saccharine voice speaks to the “friendships with my best female friends and how simultaneously annoying and fulfilling they have been.” It’s a two minute piece of dream-pop perfection that is apparently one of the Dundee duo’s “only genuinely fun and free songs,” although it still retains a little of their melancholy charm in the lilting melodies and floating synths. We also love that signature guitar twang that leads us by the hand throughout ‘My Girl’, to a little quiet corner of the internet where we can listen to st.martiins and contemplate the wonderfully stereotypical nature of friendship and the mid-summer slump. Enjoy the pause, as the Scottish outfit have promised some ponderings on the present political chaos, so expect a return to fearsome guitars and sangry (sad + angry) lyrics. - Hannah Thacker
